[net.poems] Manx

The light changes subtly and I
Stop
Near the center of the black ring.

Smoky ghosts trailing and twining behind,
Scent faintly acrid, yet intangibly sweet
In the corner of memory's eye,
Seen from a cold vantage
Near the center of the black ring.

A face is set, masked in pale pallor
That is more than reflection of smoke-filtered
crescent moonlight
Near the center of the black ring.

The heart still sluggishly beats, as I pause;
Wisp-wraith moonlight shifts silently,
Illuminating little,
Near the center of the black ring.

Only the echoes are heard,
Dim shadows in dusty footprints,
Near the center of the black ring.
