[net.poems] Street to Nowhere

She puts on her clothes, then paints on a face
So the tears and the frown can not be traced.
She faces the night...

Do you know who she is, or why she is there?
Is there some place called home, or someone to care?
No one is there, and inside she is scared
As she steps from her room on the street to nowhere.

The streets are crowded, the lights are bright.
She wonders what will become of this night.
She stands and waits...

She watches the cars and forces a smile.
She leaves with a man, then is back in a while.
She holds back a tear...

But she keeps her head up - she has nothing to hide.
She may be no one, but she still has her pride.
So she faces the world like she hasn't a care
As she walks down the street - this street to nowhere.

You see, there's no love inside, when there's no love outside.
Where no one would notice the tears if she cried.
So she won't let them know as she reflects their stares,
And keeps walking her way on the street to nowhere...
