INVOCATION

More than fifteen seasons mark the time
Ambition has led to find out love

At large, I'm loyal to cerebral ideals
Entrenched, heart and senses compel:
sight, hearing and smell. In a lover's
silent absence, gentle poets woo instead;
warm the borders of discerning solitude--
their books at bedside, in the bath,
under arm or share my meal.

Leonard Cohen, Robert Creeley, e.e. cummings
Come to my bed! Wail ON, Philip Whalen!
Snyder walk in MY wood! Kenneth Rexroth tangle hair!
Seven phallic poems of Rilke speak to my animus--
And, oh, all you as yet unknown articulates
metriculate my pulse! Vibrate my sternum--
Character counts most!

Let me Devi to your Shiva
the lotus will unfold;
emerging thru mud toward Light
And, as lovers, behold:
How we'll shine thru the soot
How we'll burn thru the night.
