While I was in a local record store, I took a break from looking at the Kate Bush CDs to see what new folk records I could see. I found: Suzanne Vega: An album on A&M records. I had previously heard this lady only on "Fast Folk Musical Magazine" records, but that was enough that I had no hesitation in buying this, and have no regrets about it. Most of the songs are very melodic and well instrumented, except for the first two, which reminded me of Laurie Anderson (really) and Rickie Lee Jones, respectively. One of the songs even has Mark Isham on synthesizer. Lui Collins, "There's A Light": on Green Linnet label, rather than Folk Legacy. I was pretty much disappointed by this one. In contrast to her other two ("Baptism of Fire" and "Made in New England"), this one seems over-arranged and heavy, rather than the light and simple music that one expects from Lui Collins. (I have seen her perform a few times, and hope that her performances do not take the same turn). I was particularly distressed that she did not do any songs by Julie Snow on this album.
