Why, among the poets of today
Is verse called "free" invariably employed?
And all the hallowed forms of poet's lay
Are now extinguished which I once enjoyed?
The charm of ordered verse is put away,
The eye by disjoint ramblings is annoyed
I fear the reason why in this fact lies:
Free verse can make the words of fools sound wise.
