Yes Daevid Allen (an Australian BTW - noone else seems to have mentioned this) was in the very earliest manifestation of the Soft Machine. His only appearance with them on record was on some live material from 1967 released on the French BYG label some years ago. The personnel on THIRD was augmented by sax players Elton Dean and Lyn something_or_other. Robert Wyatt has made several solo LPs. His first was called "Ruth is Stranger than Richard" and was made prior to his falling from a window at a party and his subsequent confinement to a wheel_chair. He has overcome this tragedy for one of the worlds greatest drummers by continuing to perform as a singer and keyboard player - most of his more recent work is either highly political or highly depressing or both. He had a big hit in the UK about 10 years ago with his version of "I'm a believer" yes really - and his latest success was Elvis Costello's "Shipbuilding" a bitter commentary on the Falklands War.
