Sorry, but this one just begged to come out. I'm in one of those moods again. This poem was born of pain, and rereading it hurts and helps at the same time. I kissed you goodbye in the airport, With the sweet taste of love in my mouth. And off to New York you go, To paint the town red with some other guy - Marios - The name is nice, as is the man, Yet with a bitter jealousy I hate him, Having never met. In a bar that night - cruising, The women choosing their mates for the night. The men, strutting their stuff, And I among them - a renegade. Catlike, stalking, hunting new meat Seeking new blood (failing). And I drive home empty, Bathed in the unfriendly light of a cold midnight moon, Spitting out the sour taste of love from my mouth. I awake warm and cozy, With my cat curled in the crook of my leg. Last night forgotten, With its empty masturbation, while you made love In a place far away, with a man I despise. But the memories flood back unbidden, And I move through the day in a fug. My lunch date flops - stood up. And I wait until dark, and dinner goes by, And I gag on the bitter taste of love in my mouth. The next day is sunny - Indian summer warm, And I am shackled to my house. No one else will do it - the work must be done. And I work 'till the sun sets, Sweating out my pain, Crying in my heart and wanting you near - Remembering the bittersweet taste of love in my mouth. At the airport again, the full moon still shines. Your flight is late, and you're not on it. Was it good? Did dalliance stop your watch? I'll wait though. You'll catch the next plane. And my arms will be open to you again, Searching for a honey taste of love in my mouth.
