I'm a beginning diver (so much a beginner that I have only checkout dives under my belt) who will be vacationing in Cancun this month. Who's got some recommendations for a rental shop and/or divemaster in the area? And, since my wife doesn't dive, I'll be looking for a buddy. I take it there are plenty of other singletons also looking for buddies? Traffic has been pretty low in this group, so go ahead and post. -andy kegel

Cancun has a very pretty beach (the N/S one, not the E/W one), but I didn't see
any good places for snorkling or scuba there...just a white sand bottom.
Cozumel was great though. We stayed at the El Presidente, and there was good
snorkling and scuba right off the beach. The boat trip I went on was terrific...
I didn't have a buddy, but that didn't seem to cause a problem...the whole
group stays pretty close together. The posted rates at the hotel were
much lower than what our tour had charged us. Try not to eat or drink
ANYTHING the whole time you're down there.
