[net.rec.scuba] Diving from a Caribbean Cruise ship?

jmleask@wateng.UUCP (Jim Leask) (03/14/85)

Hi. This group has been very quiet ever since a honeymoon
topic came up a while ago, so I thought I would throw another
one at you.
I will be going on a Caribbean cruise in October this
year (assuming I make it to the church on time) and would like
to get in some diving while down in the sunny south. I have never
been to the Caribbean however I understand that the diving is great.
I have the following questions for anyone who has been there and
would like to make recommendations:

	1) Do cruise ships offer scuba diving on the shore excursions?
		- I see most offer snorkeling but I would really like
		  to go down with tanks
	2) If so, were the trips well organized, etc...
	3) Which cruise lines go to the best islands for diving?
		- for that matter, where are the best places to dive?
	4) Any suggestions about things to watch out for (sharks??)
	   would also be appreciated.

We are both certified divers although haven't had much of an
opportunity to dive in the last few years. (I just want to dive
in WARM & CLEAR water!!) Thanks for any suggestions.

Buck Island Reef National Park off of St. Croix in the American Virgin
Islands is gorgeous! See it if you can. They have an underwater trail
for divers that extends for miles.
