The spec says it is "designed to interface with the advanced MC68020" with the 68020 providing "services requested by the MC68881 (which may be none)" ?? Other: 67-bit mantissa ALU 1-67 bit barrel shift in one cycle co-processor scheme wherein 68020 can continue in parallel with 68881 processing all "required" functions from IEEE standard most "suggested" functions from same 3 data types... single(32 bit), double (64) and double extended(80) Of course, that's what they say now...
