[net.micro.68k] help needed on deciding if the system is right for me...

taylor@sdccsu3.UUCP (Dave Taylor) (05/09/84)

I am considering buying a 68008 based single board computer system
and hooking up two 5 1/4" Dual sided, Dual Density disks and running CP/M-68K
as an operating system...the entire box would cost me about 1400 dollars (to
hook into my terminal)

My problem is that I want to write an OS and utilities all by my
lonesome, but that I need a 'C' compiler and some sort of line editor as
a bare minimum...I know that I can use the line editor 'ed' that comes with
CP/M (however poor it is) but I cannot seem to find any outlet for software
running under CP/M-68K here in San Diego....can anyone help me? (Speaking
of which, is there anything available via the CP/M Users Group??)

My basic idea is to have a sophisticated system for less than a
huge amount of money...the configuration would have 128K RAM, 640K of
storage space (both drives) and an 8Mhz clock rate...which would probably
keep me amused for a while...

Thanks for whatever help I get!!!!
