I put a quick note about the Gimix 68020 box here a few weeks ago with a promise to post the rest when I got a chance. Here's the "rest" with as much hype as possible extracted: The machine will be 68020 based, multi-user, multi-tasking, demand-paged virtual memory with a socket for a 68881. It will include 512K of static RAM upgradable to 1M 3 serial ports (intelligent) upgradable to lots. (Gimix sells parallel I/O cards too. I don't know if the software supports them.) 19M Hard disk and 1M 5" floppy. Higher capacity HD's available For those who know current Gimix systems, this is their standard system with slight modifications to accomodate the 68020's speed. The operating system offered with this machine will be UniFlex, which I know only by reputation (but it's a good reputation). The press release claims that Ada, C, Cobol, Fortran, Basic, Assembler Franz Lisp, and Prolog ARE available. (WILL BE?) They'll show it at NCC. It should be available sooner. If you're interested, especially if you're familiar with UniFlex, start nagging Gimix soon. I bet some will be shipped next month. (HOW MUCH?) They won't say. Based on the cost of current systems I'd guess 10-20K for the basic system. (HOW FAST DOES IT RUN?) They won't say. I get "neither confirm nor deny" type answers for 12MH, 16MH and 25MH. (IS UNIFLEX IT?) There may be a version of OS-9 sometime. It comes with Motorola's 68020 Bug. Real UNIX (tm) isn't out of the question some day.
