Last week I requested information about compatibility between the Intel 8086 and 80286 microprocessors. It seems they are more or less compatible with some differences. If you have specific information regarding the re-programming involved to take advantage of the 80286 in protected mode I would appreciate that. Specifically, how much trouble is it to redo the entire operating system to work with segment descriptors rather than segment registers? What is involved in programming in the desired protection for this system? How about peripherals? Are they much changed? In what way? Thanks in advance for your help.
