[net.micro.68k] Anybody got a CYPHER computer?

cjl@ecsvax.UUCP (Charles Lord) (09/25/85)

I am in the need of a relatively inexpensive 68000 based SBC
(single board computer) that will allow expansion up to
512k words (1Mb). The only relatively cheap card that I have
found is the Cypher from Motel Computers in Canada- $399 bare,
$1299 populated with 68K,z-80,1Mb,floppy controller, NEC7220
video controller. It looks awfully good on paper, but I have
never heard of it save the Byte ads for the last year or two...

Does anyone have one of these Beasts? Is it any good? Are there
any OTHER SBCs out there worth looking at? Your comments welcome.

I haven't tried the Cypher, but Helix computers has had a 68008
board out for some time now. If you want a complete OS-9 system then
you can call Frank Hogg Laboratory, (315) 474-7856
770 James St., Syracuse, New York, 13203
The Frank Hogg people will help you get in touch with Helix or possibly
sell you the board. This should do the job if all you're concerned
about is software development.

There's another single board 68000 system around right now too
but I can't recall the details. I think it might have been a Gimix
machine. It's a true 68000 processor, again for a 4 user system, and
is meant to compete with the Helix board.
