                COMPILER PACKAGES for ATARI 1040 ST
Hello,
     I've just negotiated with the bank manager for a 1040 ST. I was
wondering if anyone could send me any comments on the follow PASCAL compilers:-

     USCD PASCAL        price 74.75  pounds sterling inc VAT

     Meta PASCAL (Metacomco)  89.95  inc VAT

     Pro PASCAL  (Prospero)  129.95  inc VAT

And also has anyone any comments on the following FORTRAN-77 compilers

     USCD F-77                ??.??

     Pro F-77     (Prospero) 129.95

     While I can't comment on the versions you have asked about, the
new OS-9 68K port for the Atari 1040ST will be available shortly.  There
is a good Pascal (essentially ISO with some minor differences--I have
the manuals and can check the variations for you if necessary) and
Fortran-77 is due out a bit later this summer.  There is also a 3rd
party Pascal by Omegasoft and 2 major database tools (Sculptor which
is a 4th generation language/application generator and CSG-IMS which
is apparently network oriented).  OS-9 is beyond any doubt the most
mature and fully developed of the modern *small* OS's available for
the 68K family of processors.  The only software base which I feel is
better developed is full blown Unix, and Unix has drawbacks as well
as advantages when compared to OS-9.
