It occurred to me that some people on the net may be interested in this bit of news. Motel Computers Ltd. is liquidating and folding up. They were the makers of the Motel Cypher single-board computer. I just bought a wave-soldered board from them (end of stock) and am taking my chances on building it *WITHOUT WARRANTEE*. I didn't get it all that cheap either (roughly $600.00 Canadian including all taxes for the wave soldered board and 4 proprietary chips and software). I would not encourage others to follow in my footsteps, but on the otherhand, if you have a computer company and would like to get into 68K technology, I think you might be able to BUY the DESIGN from the owners. There s some reason to be interested in this design. It has onboard a Z-80 alternative processor, NEC-7220 graphics generator with 128K dedicated RAM and up to 1 Meg. main RAM. It has 64K Static RAM and 64K DMA (which I think is direct to the static RAM). It has D to A and A to D and a battery backed real-time clock option. Apparently all the circuitry is digitized to make it easy to modify (relatively speaking of course). If this sounds interesting to you, you can look up their ads in some old issues of Byte Magazine. The phone is disconnected, but you can still reach them by mail. Cheers! -- Jim O.
