From: Allan M. Schiffman <Schiffman@SRI-KL> Given that one want's to connect hosts using TCP/IP over X.25-based public-packet nets, what hardware/software is available? I know about the CSNET X25Net software (written at Purdue, right?); but I wouldn't mind hearing about experiences with it. I know that some Network companies are preparing gateways to do this; have you heard of any in particular where the stuff already works? If there are any other possibilities, I'd be interested. Not surprisingly, the hosts to be connected are mostly Vaxen (VMS and BSD) so implementations could be on these hosts or as (say) ethernet gateways. Thanks, -Allan -------

From: "J. Noel Chiappa" <JNC@MIT-XX.ARPA> BBN does have some IP gateways that handle X.25, but I'm not sure if they are selling them or if the software is available. Try contacting Bob Hinden at BBN. You might check with Bridge. They have an X.25 <-> Ethernet gateway for XNS, and some IP products; I'm not sure if that includes an IP gateway for that configuration. Also, some of the digital filtering repeaters (such as DEC's) might work over an X.25 line. (My previous negative comments not withstanding, here is one application; you have 1' of Ethernet attached to an existing gateway that doesn't handle X.25, then a filtering repeater, X.25 line, repeater, rest of Ethernet.)
