From: stanonik@nprdc (Ron Stanonik) We've recently obtained a copy of BIND, the domain server/resover for 4.xbsd. We're able to query servers at berkeley, which is not surprising since they're probably running similar (if not the same) code. We haven't succeeded in querying the server at sri-nic (or usc-isib or usc-isif). Tcp connections are refused (ie, no server listening to port 53), and no packets are received in response to udp queries. Has anyone (particularly using BIND) succeeded querying sri-nic? Any tricks? Any common blunders installing BIND? Is there a better mailing list for these questions? Thanks, Ron Stanonik stanonik@nprdc

From: "Jeffrey I. Schiller" <Schiller@MIT-MULTICS.ARPA> I have successfully installed BIND here at MIT. I have no problems querying the NIC or ISIF (though sometimes they don't answer if they don't know the name you requested). I have also found and fixed at least one bug so far (cache aging) in bind. Is there a mailing list for BIND users/hackers to communicate, I would like to know this too. -Jeff

From: MILLS@USC-ISID.ARPA In response to the message sent 28 May 1985 1139-PDT (Tuesday) from stanonik@nprdc Ron, Mike O'Connor (oconnor@dcn9) has BIND up and running on our Sun here and has joy of NIC, ISIB and ISIF UDP servers. Dinky fuzzball DCN1 (128.4.0.1) runs a UDP server which caches the ARPA domain, but is not full-featured. The appropriate list is namedroppers@nic. Dave -------
