This leads me to believe that perhaps there should be more than two root domain servers, and that perhaps at least one should be on the East Coast. If this suggestion seems sound, but an appropriate site is needed, BRL would be happy to volunteer. Why? Because we plan to transition a dozen VAXen to using domain-server based naming in a few weeks, and not having the root domain accessable could have some very bad effects on the network usability of our systems.
