Is there any way to specify that a note shouldn't be expired?
It would be nice if a bit could be set and the note would stay
around. This way there is a way to keep things that are
important to the newsgroup around. Examples include the
recent description of Empire in net.games.emp and the recent
Mark Horton Usenet map.

While there is no status bit laying around which will keep
a note from being archived, there are several ways to keep a note
from being archived.
Probably the best method that works now (as in maybe something
better will done in the future) is to turn on the "director message"
for the note(s) that you don't want archived. Then use the nfarchive
"-m" option, which archives only messages with the director message
turned off.
There are problems with this method. If notes that you do want
archived have the director message enabled, they will stay around
forever. Hopefully there won't be too many of these.
