#N:sri-unix:1000009:000:802 sri-unix!mclure Aug 3 02:11:00 1982 After giving the 'p' command while reading a note (intending to send a personal reply to the author), it comes back with /usr/ucb/mail decvax!aps rather than the correct path which would give /usr/ucb/mail menlo70!ucbvax!decvax!aps Apparently, it is using just the last two parts of the address! Is anyone else having this problem or does someone have a fix? Naturally, /usr/ucb/mail comes back with 'unknown host'. There are two other places in notes where it shows just decvax!aps, on the index page next to the note (I assume because there's only enough room for an abbreviated form of the full path), and in the notes page itself in the upper left corner where it says aps (at decvax) although there seems to be enough room in this latter case to display more of the pathname. #R:sri-unix:1000009:uiucdcs:23300015:004:464 uiucdcs!essick Aug 4 09:38:00 1982 The notes program only keeps the author's name and host. I feel that all the user (or any program that talks to the mailer) should have to say is that he wants to get somewhere, the mail program should decide how to get there (or know where to find out how to get there). Here at U of Ill. (uiucdcs) we run a simple mail filter that translates host!user into a full path based on a table. Although not perfect, it works often enough for our needs. Ray Essick

#R:sri-unix:1000009:sri-unix:1000013:000:185 sri-unix!mclure Aug 5 03:22:00 1982 Can you make the filter for expanding host!user into the proper path available to the notesfile community? It's a *big* loss not to be able to respond personally within notes. Stuart
