b I have some negative comments on notes to present. Operation: It seems that I spend an awful lot of time in notes just watching things on my screen that I don't want to see. Seeing the notes menu is kindof nice; after all with readnews you see the titles of all articles also, just not all at once. But I don't like having to go through the menu every time I want to do something. I'd like to be able to to examine it, and present the program with a list of the article numbers that I want to see. For multiple menu pages, it would not be a problem to go back from the last selected article to the next menu page, just as long as I don't have to see that &#^@$ same page again. I would like an option to step to the next note withOUT going back to the menu automatically if I happen to step past the last one (boy that is irritating). I'd like to have a way NOT to have to see an entire page of an article that I'm not sure I want to see; I can't now abort after the first couple of lines and skip to the next, I have to sit and wait while the article comes out. I'd like a way to sit at a blank screen so that I can jump to another notesfile and when I come back, not have to watch that blamed menu come out again. In general, the video interface is nice, if it didn't act like a 3270 (whole screen or nothing). Functionality: Readnews with its .newsrc was nice, because I could subscribe to "*" and automagically get every newsgroup whether I knew it existed or not. That combined with Unsubscribe is something I really miss. I also miss not being able to tag individual articles as not having been seen. Mark Mallett decvax!sii!mem

For some reason, notes won't do this on index pages. /* ---------- */ Works fine on index pages for me. Perhaps you have an older version of notes?

This has the added advantage that you can skip a screenload of a multiple page note. 'j' takes you to the next note, which isn't always what you want. The only time I EVER see the `menu' (index page?) is when I want to search for author/title, or see how many notes are in the group. What is this 'menu' you refer to? Is it possible you have a local front end to notes? If so, you ought to be able to do an endrun around it somehow. Dave Olson, {harpo,ihpn4,hpda}!fortune!olson
