I had occasion to listen to the live "grand old opry" on WSM (650 KHz, can be heard most of eastern US, maybe more). I was astounded with the degree of similarity to PHC. The powdermilk bisquit commercials and jingles are *very* similar to the "martha white" flour ones on the Opry. The music is somewhat different (they don't get many Norwegian accordian players on the Opry). The jokes, monologues, guest commedians and general format are very similar however. I think there broadcasts from the opry house in Nashville at various times. I think the one to listen to is the Saturday night one about 9 or 10 p.m EST. Dust off your AM radio after PHC and give it a try.

Those of us who grew up not being taught that bluegrass and country are lesser art forms love the Opry. I am also a fan of PHC - and the similarities are many. Many PBS TV stations broadcast a show called 'Classic Country' with Earnest Tubb and Minnie Pearle and some great entertainment. Clogging, Jokes (really corny), and songs galore.
