[net.wobegon] Class Gift monologue from PHC 22-Jan-83

dag (01/24/83)

The "news from the town that time forgot" section of this Saturday's
show concerned the introduction of a "computer" to Lake Wobegon. I think
that the non-computer public would benefit from someone (with permission)
publishing a transcript of this section of the show in some popular
publication. It is a touching and thoughtful look into the introduction
of this technology to the general public. In a gental way, it deals with
the fears of some about what the intrusion of computers into the lives of
themselves and others around them will do to them. This is rather rambling,
full of spelling errors and the like, but we don't have a shell script that
allows automatic entry of an editor while submitting articles. (We don't
have VI, not do I know if we could run it.)
Back to PHC... I'm glad I taped the show (I tape them all, as I can't
listen to them when they are on the air...) and I think I'll keep this one.

PS:
I give to the station during fundraisers. When I send in my
check, I always enclose a letter saying how much I like the
show. If you are a PHC fan and don't contribute to the station
that you listen to it on, SHAME ON YOU. (Please, no flames...
I've been a fund raiser for NPR member stations for four years
(volunteer pledge-takeing) so I have that reaction built in.)
