#R:ucbesvax:36000001:ucbesvax:36000002:000:1118 ucbesvax!turner Jan 3 16:09:00 1984 I have since received some replies to the above flame, all explaining what the group is for, and suggesting that I unsubscribe. I am not a subscriber, and the ostensible rationale for the group is misleading. The discussion in this group was rekindled in response to a threat to discontinue it. Until that threat, the only things I have seen in this newsgroup have been comments to the effect of "how come we don't have anything to say these days?" In other words, people want to keep this newsgroup as a memento of the warm, happy times when there was actually some discussion. Is that what it's for? Does it embody some empty principle of defending sentimental value? I haven't listened to "The Prairie Home Companion". Please tell a curious non-in-group-member why he should bother. Perhaps you could resuscitate discussion. Otherwise, consider that you might be blocking the development of the net, by holding onto yet another empty newsgroup when people are loathe to allow new groups because there are already so many old, largely unused ones sitting around. --- Michael Turner (ucbvax!ucbesvax.turner)
