<pure, mostly> By all means let's not nuke wobegon. I saw a posting earlier suggesting that other public radio shows be discussed here too (ie Bob and Ray), if that's what it takes, let's do it. (The idea has some merit on its own anyway). Garrison Keillor came here to the University of South Carolina a few weeks ago as part of our writers' series. If you get a chance to see him in your area, do. There was an overflow crowd, so I only watched by closed circuit tv, but he was in very good form. It's always a shock to see what he looks like (as opposed to what he sounds like) and his stage presence is very nervous (shy you might even say) but it somehow all comes together. He read a few of his stories and tried out a new wobegon monologue he was working on, but the highlights of the talk were probably an hilarious obviously extemporised piece on snakes that live in the water table and a (supposedly true) incident that happened to him in church one day (This one you'll never hear on the radio). On another note, beware of the taped monologues Wireless is selling, they have been cut some. (Or at least one on the "winter" tape has been). I thought I remembered "Stormchild" being longer and when I caught it on a PHC rerun I confirmed it.
