[net.wobegon] They're after us again...

A couple of years ago I saw a news article about PHC, (I think in
the Washington Post), and in it there was a map of Lake Wobegon.

Actually, I think that it would be appropriate if net.wobegon
could be merged into some sort of "net.folk" for folk music, folklore,
etc. I would like to talk about folk music sometimes, but I don't dare
try to wade through all the crap in net.music.

Just must be the shyness of all us net.wobegon-ers. Probably due to
a lack of PowderMilk biscuits....

I second the idea of a group to discuss folk activities (music, story-telling,
dance, what-have-you). I enjoy most of the submissions to net.wobegon, however
this has never been a terribly active news-group. Lately, discussion seems to
occur only when somebody suggests deleting the group. Shy-persons need have
no more fear of speaking up about our favorite radio show in a folk newsgroup,
than in this one. (Folkies tend to be supportive sensitive people.) Indeed,
this might allow shy-persons to forget their shyness in the rush of excitement
over the discovery that other persons share some of their interests.

I propose that we discuss this possibility in this group prior to suggesting
it in net.news.groups (where the whole world would be watching), so that we
can present a united front to the net. That's an important consideration
for us shy-persons.

That's all for now. Have a Powder-Milk Biscuit. Heavens they're tasty.

I also would like to see a group for discussing folk music. I've been
reading net.music in hopes of seeing maybe ONE article about folk, and
have just that... exactly one article. I'm a relatively new folkie
(is that a contradiction?) and wouldn't mind seeing a discussion of
various kinds of folk music. I don't think, however, that the purpose
of net.wobegon is the place for it; just from its name, this group has
a much narrower focus. We should either have net.music.folk (there is
yet another discussion "raging" in net.music about subgroups), or even
better net.folkarts, or something like that, which encompasses more than
just folk music.

Any other comments...?

A newsgroup for discussion of folk music sounds like a good idea.
Consider this as a yes vote.
