[net.wobegon] A heartening note

One of the most encouraging things I've heard in weeks:

KPBS (San Diego's public radio) held a special fund raising a couple of
weeks ago to continue buying APHC from NPR:

IT TOOK LESS THAN 15 MINUTES TO RAISE ALL THE MONEY NEEDED FOR THE NEXT YEAR!!

Now that, folks, I find amazing for this town. Maybe there are more sane
people out there than I've thought.

It would have taken less than 15 minutes to get the pledges, if

(a) it hadn't been a beautiful day--most everybody was outside, and

(b) the station manager had remembered to give the phone number in
    the first 3 minutes.

We were there, and it was kind of neat--amazing how quickly you can
get $4000, even with average pledges running around $10-25. Lots of
retired people (and a couple of blind folks) find PHC well worth it!
