The local public radio station KUT-FM is just outstanding. No doubt there are some problems but only minor ones. They do not carry everything from NPR (like National Press Club etc.) but we get Morning Edition (5-8 a.m.) and ATC (5-6:30 p.m.). We have a daily program called "Eklektikos" (8:10 a.m.- 2 p.m.) which is mainly classical music but has daily variations (called ear-soothing surprises). It is hard to predict what one can expect but you may hear Mozart, Bach, Laurie Anderson, George Winston, Philip Glass, Kiri Te Kanawa, George Gershwin etc. etc.. In short a lot of variety.(No hard rock, top 40s or fluff like that!). The afternoons are filled with a program called "Cross-currents" which is mainly jazz. After ATC we have our local programs or things like "Star-Wars", "Mind's I","Lord of the Rings" or programs from "Longhorn Radio Network". From 8 p.m. to midnight we have jazz including "World Music" on fridays. The above is the schedule for Monday-Friday. I will tell you about the weekend in my next posting. However you can see that the strength of the station lies in the variety it offers and the fact that it is operated 24 hours a day. It is also interesting to point out that the station has won the award for most popular station (according to a local magazine) for four years in a row and last year it had six of the top ten radio personalities including the top one. So if you are in this neighbourhood tune into KUT-FM (90.5). You are in for a pleasant surprise. Atul Arya Dept. of Petroleum Engg. Univ. of Texas at Austin
