[net.wobegon] Tapes.

r032@sphinx.UChicago.UUCP ( Sam Rebelsky) (08/18/85)

A local bookstore just got in some boxed sets of cassettes of portions of
various PHC shows (apparently mostly comedy portions).

Each set has four one hour tapes, one for each season of the year. It looks
like these were released a few years ago, but that's about all I can tell.

Does anyone know anything about them? Are they worth the ~$35 the bookstore
   is charging?

The tapes were made by Minnesota Public Radio in St. Paul. They are con-
sioderably cheaper if you buy from Minnesota Public Radio. They are Keilor s
favorites of the past few years. I think they are worth the money, but remem-
ber, I m the kid from North Dakota. I am told Keilor is making more tapes for
sale through MPR. Also, theater people tell me Keilor is one of the best vocal
performers in the business. Try the tapes, you'll like them. You can also copy
them and give them as birthday gifts to your non-Scandanavian friends. Yours

I bought this set last Christmas from Minnesota Public Radio for $30
so the price doesn't seem unreasonable considering there's no postage
charges... It's all News from Lake Wobegon, again classified according
to the seasons. Whether it's worth it is up to you. I bought them
for my father, who tapes parts of the show anyway for later listening.

I only know of one set, entitled "News from Lake Wobegon." It is exactly
what it sounds like. I rather enjoy them, but I doubt I would pay $35 for
them. I thnk they are available direct from Minnesota Public Radio. Write to
them in St Paul and ask for the PHC catalog or the "Wireless" catalog.

This may be in violation of some copyright laws. I don't know how
sticky they are about such things up there in minnesota, of course;
it may be so cold by this time of year that they burned the copyright
statutes just to keep warm!
