Read your fill about APHC, GK, "Lake Wobegon Days", etc.? Thought that there wasn't anything left to write about the show, the host, the town? Guess again! For an entirely new slant on the show, pick up the article beginning on page 29 of the October, 1985 issue of "Broadcast Management/Engineering" (known in the industry as "BM/E"), entitled "Old Time Radio Benefits from New Technology". In it you will learn about: ** The two audiences for the show, and how their needs differ! ** The special problems of producing the "News from" segment! ** How the show has been changed by taking to the satellite! ** The secrets of the behind-the-scenes gnomes who make the music leap from your loud speakers! BM/E is a "trade technical" publication, aimed at those who toil on the technical side of broadcasting, so it may not be available on your neighborhood newsstand. However, colleges and universi- ties with engineering curricula often have subscriptions to it; alternatively you may be able to pry one out of the hands of someone at your local NPR station, at least for a quick reading.
