[net.wobegon] Followup to Pat Dunkin's letter: Save net.wobegon!

(Open followup to Pat Dunkin's letter of 8/23, also sent to rick@seismo:)

Re: P.A. Dunkin's letter and imminent demise of net.wobegon

I second this letter's statements, and have but one thing to add:
I for one have sat back and just READ the news from net.wobegon for weeks at
a time before actually contributing anything, and I suspect this pattern may
not be unusual; the type of people who would elect to read such a newsgroup in
the first place are probably not going to be voluminous posters.

And as Mr. Dunkin pointed out, we certainly have one of the most well-mannered
groups on the net.

I suspect just knowing that net.wobegon exists brings a smile and a ray of
sunshine into the lives of many a not-necessarily-Norwegian bachelor hacker.
Please reconsider your decision.

I am very surprised to hear of the shabby way net.wobegon will be
treated in the future. I am a constant reader of net.wobegon.
The one interesting thing about net.wobegon is the great way it
is handled, compared to other groups (net.music and net.auto
come to mind). Only important news is posted - you don't see
flames and rehashes of articles. This is a great group and should
remain as a group of Usenet!
