Archimede's Principle Problem #2: -------------------------------- a spring with a floating bob (like a fishing bob) attached is fixed to the bottom of a can filled with water: (these things are hard to draw on a computer) |.....water............| | | | | | | | BOB | | s | | s | | s <- spring | | s | | s | | s | | s | ------------------------ Anyway, since the BOB is trying to float, the spring is under tension, i.e. it is stretching. If you were to take the whole can and drop it out of a window, what would happen to the position of the BOB inside the can? Would the BOB go up, go down or stay in the same position?
