Could someone please explain the stuff about the water level rising
because of "air" being displaced?  The Archimedes principle ought to work
whether it is in a vacuum, regular air, or laughing gas.

Just one more thing that I can't resist.  Someone made a statement here that
"The air is obviously the reason why the ice floats".  The note
originated from a system called MIT-OZ.  MIT turned me down for admission
twice, and now here's this MIT person with new theories about why
ice floats.   ....sigh
