King <KING at KESTREL> In a manual defrost refrigerator the hot water might freeze faster because it melts the layer of ice under the place where you put the trays, so the trays contact bare metal instead of a layer of ice. In a self-defrosting refrigerator, the hot water might trigger the compressor to run. This doesn't lower the temperature inside the box, of course (else the compressor would stop), but it does turn on a fan so heat can be removed from the ice faster at a given temperature. -------
