[net.physics] Waste products of nuclear reactions

Seems to me that anything radioactive ought to be useful.

Can someone comment on the practicality of seperating nuclear
wastes to the point where the products are useful in medicine,
SNAP generators, watches, etc, etc...

There are presently many millions of tons of waste, largely liquid,
around. The amount of radioactive materials needed for watches,
medicine, smoke detectors etcetera you could put in your eye. (I can
already hear the comments coming in on that one...) The only plausible
thing to do with most of that waste other than to hide it away somewhere
is to input it to a breeder. Now on breeders, we could have quite a
long discussion...volunteers???
