From: Marc Majka <majka@ubc-vision.UUCP> A reading of the history and philosophy of science will show that there is no such thing as "value free" science. Society, church and state have always had a great bearing on the science of the day. This may not always have been for the best, but it is the case. The results of scientific pursuit always has an impact on the rest of the world, and therefore a system of ethics and values is necessary. "Value - free" thinking by scientists gave us "experiments" on Jews in Nazi Germany. Scientists in this age are (thankfully) increasingly aware of both their own values, and of those who have the results of science inflicted upon them. Marc Majka
