Did anyone watch the CBS evening news Monday night (Jan 9)? Specifically the closing story done by Rather. It briefly described an inventor in Missippii who was trying to patent an 'engine' which could produce up to 10 times the energy required to run it. It was apparently based on revolving magnets. The patent office has turned his patent request down although the physicists who have investigated his work felt it was worth further study (although it seems to be in contradiction of many accepted physical laws). [The story said that essentially the energy was created from matter!]. I would be very interested in any detailed information on this project. I've heard of similar things before. The only thing I can think of is that the device is merely tapping the energy stored in the fields of the magnets. It may still be worth looking into, since even one of those little ceramic magnets like you get from Edmund Sci. can have a heck of a lot of energy stored in their magnetic field. els[Eric Strobel] decvax!pur-ee!Physics:els
