[net.physics] drops in clouds

evans@mhuxt.UUCP (crandall) (02/22/84)

None of the answers for the question "why clouds are white" got to the
core of the matter. Obviously they scatter light better than their
surroundings -- why (Rayleigh scattering is only part of it)?

Hint: estimate an upper limit on the size of a water drop in a cloud. What
would you see as you looked at a cloud whose water drops were increasing in
size through this limit?
