Solar flares not only contain many different types of ions, but one
sees things like "iron rich" flares or "calcium rich" flares.  I don't
think this is understood.  Some people have suggested that there is a
selection mechanism that acts like a mass spectrometer, or perhaps the
atmosphere of the sun is not homogeneous.
