The most significant thing that I noticed in the FORTRAN vs C vs Ada debate over use for scientific programming/number crunching, was the fact that FORTRAN has large libraries of pre-defined mathematical functions. At least one (and maybe more than one) such library has been commissioned (and may even have been completed) for use with Ada. I am under the impression that the source for these libraries will be availiable free of charge. For more information, I would suggest contacting Col. William Whitaker (WWHITAKER@USC-ECLB) or the Ada Joint Program Office (AJPO) (ADA-INFO@USC-ECLB) both on the Arpanet/Milnet/DDN. Also, I ought to mention that Ada has better facilites for controlling the precision and representation of numbers than does FORTRAN. --Brad Balfour arpa brad@maryland CSNet brad@umcp-cs uucp {seismo!allegra}!umcp-cs!brad
