(Munch, chomp, burp,...) The following is a footnote from _Radiation_and_Optics_ by John M. Stone, but it gives a simple explaination: "There is also a Kerr magneto-optic effect involving a change in polarization of a wave reflected from an iron mirror when the iron is magnetized."
