[net.physics] Joseph Newman in Congress

morse@leadsv.UUCP (Terry Morse) (11/06/85)

Joseph Newman just made the Charles Osgood CBS radio broadcast. It seems that
Mr. Newman has not given up his attempt to patent his "energy generator". But
now, he is going to waste some of our federal money as well.

He has gotten some congressman (Philip Burton, I think) to enter a bill in
Congress that would force the patent office to issue him a patent. To
paraphrase Newman, it would do no harm to anyone except Newman if he were
issued a patent. But, if he turns out to have found a real perpetual motion
machine, then think of the benefits.

Might it be in the public interest for some scientific group to debunk this
thing once and for all? It might make a nice class project for Freshman
Physics.
