[net.games.pbm] PBMers, note...

ARPAVAX:Onyx:harymudd (11/08/82)

Here Ye!! ... Here Ye!!

I'm looking again for STARWEB players out there again. It's time to wake
up net.games.pbm anyway. If anybody out there plays HEROIC FANTASY, please
also drop me a line. If you are wondering what this group is about, drop
me a line. I believe that I still do have the starting message around...
(Especially since I posted it...)

I am a believer in FBI. The service is excellent, the response time is
almost exactly as stated. The people in charge are always helpful. If you
want something special (like a particular game time/duration/etc.) they
will go way way way out on a limb trying to satisfy you. I am currently
playing 3 StarWeb games (619, 654, 707(?)) and enjoying them. My first
attempt, SW-619, looks like a dismal failure. My second attempt is a
moderate success, but I am too centralized. My third game is just started.
FBI can be reached by writing:
	Flying Buffalo Inc.
	  P.O. Box 1467
	  Scottsdale, AZ
	   85252-1467

They will not start you in a game until you have purchased the rules. If you
write them a short note saying you are interested in the rules (and I believe
there is a $2.00 cover charge for Starweb, $1.00 for Heroic Fantasy and
Galactic Conflict, $.50 for Battle Plan and Nuclear Destruction) they will
send you the rules and an explanation of what services they provide. Just
tell them you are new to the game and interested in learning more.
   For FBI types:
   -------------
I am not having any luck in my first game (SW-619) as an Artifact Collector,
I found that most alliance broke down the moment the other player determined
he/she had a significant advantage. How do you play the AC character?
In my second game (SW-654) I am a Berserker and having a rollicking good
time at the moment although there is a strong alliance forming to get me.
I have some surprises left for them courtesy of a Merchant ally.
In the third and most recent game, I have started as a Merchant (perceiving
the carrying capacities would yield an early lead and make me a desireable ally)
This is the first game where mapping seems possible. SW-619 and SW-654 are
a mess to map. I cannot see any way to fit more that 10 worlds onto a
planar map that is at all meaningful. SW-7?? is a hex map so far and I am
SOOOOO HAPPY.

I have tried a game of Heroic Fantasy and I am not finding it too much to my
liking so I am going to drop out. I did run a program to maximize my starting
Strength and Constitution, but the game seems to limitted to do much with
anything. I would like to hear opinions to the contrary.
Battle Plan sounds interesting, but I haven't had a chance to start one yet.
Maybe I'll drop HF in favour of a game of BP.
Galactic Conflict sounds like a real turkey. Sort of like the Stellar
Conquest game for Vax's out of Cornell, but played one turn a month instead
of interactively.

Anyone out there have good experiences with other PBM companies?

Since mail can't seem to make it to you, I'm putting this here.
Just what is this newsgroup about?
