************************************************************************** Player: Rob Mitchell (allegra!hogpd!jrrt) Character: Ayudante the Seer [eye-you-DON-tay] History: Ayudante is the only child of Thrak Hammerfist, the main blacksmith in town. Ayudante's mother died in childbirth, and it is generally agreed that this sad fact led to Thrak's almost continual lack of sobriety thereafter. Thrak had great plans for his son, hoping that the boy would grow up into a mighty Hero. No such luck. Ayudante is an albino, and so has the physical limitations associated with that condition. His adolescence was hell, as his father would spend their free time trying to teach the basics of riding and weaponry to him. Ayudante tried hard, and learned a great deal about the *theory* of combat, but never seemed to be able to apply that knowledge (although he has some *small* ability with a quarterstaff). When Thrak had to tend to the smithy, Ayudante would sneak off to Cerissa, a Sage in town. Cerissa would willingly spend hours with the lad, teaching him the basics of Runes and a spell list, but primarily just the elements of Perception that are crucial for Understanding the universe. She was a good teacher, and Ayudante was an even better student. When Choosing Day came, and Ayudante had to pick a field to apprentice to, the choice was simple. Dashing his father's hopes, he chose being a Sage over being a Fighter. The apprenticeship was spent gaining a firm foundation in Runes and Perception, with an introduction to Staves & Wands. A new spell lists was also memorized. Thrak has been bitter to this day over his son's "betrayal." He sees the call for volunteers at the Four Quarters dinner as his last chance to get some reflected glory from his son, so he urgently and angrily was gesturing from the back of the room to have Ayudante step forward. Ayudante is reluctant, because his education has only started! He has so much yet to learn! But Ayudante has a strong sense of duty, he will step forward...
