Is there anyone out there in net-land that plays "Beyond the Stellar Empire" ?
If so, I would be interested in hearing from you about your experiences with
the game.

Alright, there is another true PBM'er out on the net! (I have been
looking for two years now.)

I have played BSE for over three years now. Started off in the
Stellar Mining and Smelting (SMS). I had a very fruitful "career"
with them for over two years, ending up as the Research Co-ordinator
for a year and a half.

At about that time, the company that runs BSE (Adventrues By Mail) had
come out with a couple of new games. To get them developed and into
production, they took their experianced GM's out of running what had
been their first and only game, BSE. And the quality and turn-around
time took a nose dive.

But as to how that affected me: The changeover in GM's affected the
SMS in the continuity in running the company. Within a very short
period of time (6 mo.), I would say that eight of the top ten players
in the SMS either dropped out of the game, or left the SMS.

To my knowlege, there are two other people that I knew from the
SMS remaining in the game. One controls the remnants of the SMS.
Another is a rebel sitting in his heavily-defended colony waiting for
the Imperial Forces to come in and try to take him out. (Good luck to
them - they'll need a heavy frieghter full of body-bags to do it.)

And myself. I have taken a much more retiscent lifestyle in this
gamein the past year. I currently control IND Deathbird, an
independant colony that has no formal ties with any Companies (though
I do have my fingers in whatever pies interest me.) Deathbird sits on
a world by herself, a rock composed almost entirely of
metals/non-metals. She has several research projects on the docket,
and is building her production facilities. Her self-defense is very
top-rank. My only problem is that I am far from the commercial
centers, and that it is not profitable for people to haul M/NM back.
The profit margin isn't worth it for the time expended.

As to whether advise anyone to join the game today starting as a new
player: No. The prices have become too steep in my opinion, and the
GM quality is too low and mistake rates are too high. There are a lot
of better games out there. Try a newer generation Rimworlds or Aegyptus
than is BSE (which is a later generation of Universe) . If interested
get back to me and I will look up the addresses in one of the Hobby
magazines.

If you are wondering why I am still in BSE, that is simply because of
the history and friends that I have in the game.

For any other PBM'ers, lets hear from you, in mail or postings. I am
more than willing to answer any communications. I currently play
Rennaissance, Capitol, and am entering Rimworlds. I probably know
someone that is playing any game that you are playing.

May the Great Bird of the Galaxy bestow
his/her blessing upon you and yours,
