[net.games.pbm] New postal Dip zine

knight@rlgvax.UUCP (Steve Knight) (07/23/85)

I've recently begun publishing a postal games zine (SF fandom term, short
for maga*zine*), as part of the established postal Diplomacy hobby. If
you'd like to receive a free copy, send me a reply containing your mail
address (not net address). Issue #3 is at the printer's right now; back
issues of #1 and #2 are available.

The zine is entitled "It's a Trap!" I'm running two games of Diplomacy,
both of which are filled now, but I expect to open up a few more games in
a few months. I'm also running a league of United, a game of postal
soccer management that's very popular in the British postal games hobby
but not so widely known here. United has replaced Diplomacy as my
favorite postal game, something I thought would never happen; I may
post the rules in another article. I've also offered to play Twixt
(formerly a 3M bookshelf game, now owned by Avalon Hill) with up to four
subscribers; anyone who beats me wins five free issues. (I'm no Twixt
expert, but I think I'm pretty good.)

In addition to the games, I try to include reading material of interest
to those not playing games (circulation is currently 66, so most
subscribers aren't currently playing). For example, I've been doing some
movie reviews the past few issues, as well as writing up my experiences
at a few recent postal gaming get-togethers. Subscriptions are 50 cents
plus postage per issue. No big pressure, though. As I said before, send
me your address if you'd like to see a no-obligation sample copy.
