[net.games.pbm] Ron's D & D game. Important message to all players!

vc155ah@unmc.UUCP (11/15/85)

O.K.!!!!!!!!!!

I've gotten many more responses to the call for players in my PBM D & D game.
In fact, I am now closing up entries in the campaign. I cannot alow this to
get to big! I only have so much time! So, for those who are playing (a list
follows of who I have playing, what their character class, alignment, and
level will be.) I will be posting everybodies character (base, of course)
to the net. This way, all can see who their party members will be.
This is how things are going to be run:

I, as DM, will post to the net, via Net.games.pbm, whatever events, actions,
things, monsters, etc. the party sees, encounters, etc. You then, as players,
will mail to the party leader (see note on what a party leader is below), what
you think ought to be done. The party leader will collect, correlate and mail
me the parties move. If one or more players wish to break off from the group
(a possibility, of course....), then they are responsible for mailing me
their moves. I will, in turn, try to mail them what they see, do etc.

For example:

Your party, after travelling through the briar patch, has encountered
a set of fairly large footprints in the ground, leading to a large hole which
decends, as far as you can tell, deep into the earth. The elf, using his
good hearing can barely pick out the words "I'm laaaaaaate" coming from inside
the hole. The tracks appear to be rabbit tracks. You then hear a scream from
the NE. A girl in trouble. What do you do?????

You, the party, would then mail to the party leader your reply (screw it, go
down the hole; save the girl; screw the girl >then< go down the hole....)
and then I would post the response to your response and so on.

Using the data that you have given me (your playing experience, character
class preference, and alignment preference), I have decided that the party
will be made up of characters from about the 5th level to the 8th or 9th
levels. They will be in the Chaotic, Good, and Neutral areas. I will be
posting (or maybe mailing, ha, ha) your characters out to you. For MU's and
the like who require spells, you will be allowed to choose your own spells.
I will grant other items onto other players, classes, etc. as I see fit.
I already have the sceanario that you will be going through in mind (and
on paper), so Be ready to begin really soon!

Be watching this group for more and new info!!!!!!!

List of players I have at this time (11/13/85, 7:07pm MST):

Bruce Gamble CN	f/mu	7/6
Mike Arms CG	mu	7 *temporary party leader, see below*
Scott J. Berry NG	cl	6
Joel M. Rives N	??	?
Jeff Wallace NG	f	8
Joel Plutchak CG	f	5
Rich Lantz CN	tf	6
Mike Stalnaker N	f/mu	6/7
Steve Howard CN	tf	6
Robert A. Ekblaw	NG	f/cl	8
Mark Holden CG	f	6
David Corbin N	mu	7
Kenneth W. Crist, Jr.	CG	mu	5

*I have designated Mike Arms as temporary party leader for now. (only because
he semi-volunteered for the job and if things get bad, he is only a local
phone call away!!!). Players should try to get a hold of him. Use this:
Your path to unmvax!sandia!marms. This should work.*

I've based character class and alignment on your preferences (roughly), and the
character level on your playing experience (less you played, lower level). This
is because I hope the higher level (and more experienced players), will be the
party type leaders and will be able to show those who haven't played as much
a little aid!

Now, here are some things you should know:

1) This is not going to be easy. Ask my friends who have played with me as DM.
I tend to be a little diabolical. Not cruel, mind you (having you fight a
dozen adult red dragons and making the treasure only copper pieces, for example
of something nasty), but I do play fair.

2) I like to play alignment. I love to play alignment. In fact, your adventure
is alignment based! (guesses, anybody???). I like characters and players who
play alignment well. Know thyneself and thou knowest thine alignment!!!!!

3) Please remember, this entire game is a giant experiment. Remember back a
while ago, when Ryan Ramsey first posted the idea of PBM D & D? Well, it was
just to see if a campaign (or adventure) would work if played PBM. The game
is going to be slow. I have heard that it is taking 5 days for my posting to
reach some parts of the world. Add on another 5 days for mailings back and
forth and you have a week and a half a move! Don't worry too much, I'll try
to keep thngs interesting.

4) (my this is getting long!) I am going to try this method: As I detailed
a little before, I will post sceaniaros to the net. (quicker it is than
mailing, yes?). Each little sceaniro will be part of the entire adventure.
Each little sceaniro will present a problem or pose a deliemma. You, the party
will then have to decide what you, the party will do. In some, you'll have some
set choices to chose from (enter the dungeon, enter the forest, go to bed.).
In some, you will have to decide for yourselves what the best action will be.

5) I am taking it on your word that you are all gentlemen (no ladies have
responded yet!). Let's try to avoid petty arguements between players and
characters! If the majority of the party is for something that you are
against, either go along or try to argue rationally. No flames, no random
quitting " cause I don't like this anymore". If you do want to (or need to)
quit the game, please tell me befoe you do so plans and character lists and
the rot can be changed! Thanks for your consideration!

Let us all have a damn good time doing this! O.K.! Character postings will
be going out by Monday the 18th at the latest and first sceaniro will be
going out be next Wendsday, the 20st. Introduction to the adventure will
be posted on Tuesday, the 19th.

Bye for now!
Ronald C. Rosul Jr.

P.S.- An open note to the Whispering Spirit-

I lost your mail telling me of you character preference, but I still have
your letter giving me all the other info. Please re-mail this! Thanks.
