[net.music] Another cross-reference idea

showard@udenva.UUCP (showard) (05/11/85)

Jerry Boyajian posted some lyrics from The First Edition's "..What Condition.."
and it struck me that it includes the title of the Byrds' classic "8 Miles High"

So here's the idea: let's get all the song title references like this and see
how many there are. ((Please don't flame me, I'd probably be very hurt.))

> "I put my soul in a deep dark hole and then I followed it in
> I found my mind in a brown paper bag within
> I tripped on a cloud and fell eight miles high
> I tore my mind on a jagged sky
> I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in"

P.S. Don't forget American Pie with my favorite: Eight miles high and falling
faaaaaaaaaast.

This reminds me of when the state of Florida was banning rock songs from radio
air play in the 1960s. "Eight Miles High" was one of their targets because
it was obviously about drugs (just like "Mr. Tambourine Man" had been).

They never changed their mind even after they found out the song was about
an airplane trip to London. Oh well, they still new that "Share the Land"
promoted Communism!
