Headaches continue. Our autodialer is probably going in for repair tomorrow, but it's not clear how long that will take. Nor do we know whether we can get a loaner while ours is under repair; the CGE front office wasn't sure and told me to ask when I take the modem in. My working assumption is that this means "no". I am cobbling up a setup for manual dialing with one of our non-autodialing modems. We should be able to hold the fort with this for a few days, at the cost of some inconvenience and perhaps higher bills (staying till after midnight is quite inconvenient for us, due to external constraints; I assume that the overall bill will not be too adversely affected, because all the troubles lately have been reducing the phone bill markedly). Stay tuned.

The wheels of manual dialing grind exceeding slow... Tuesday's manual dialing session got virtually nothing across, the MTBF of the line was measured in minutes. Wednesday decvax wasn't home when I called. Right now things are coming across nicely. We may have lost a bit of traffic from late last week to decvax's old-files deleter; the sequence numbers suggest this.
